Garage Door Repair

What actually goes wrong with a residential garage door

Most garage doors that stop working are not worn out. They are a sound door attached to a worn counterbalance, a frayed cable, a flat-spotted roller or a track that has shifted a few millimetres out of line. Those parts are made to be replaced.

A door that is suddenly heavy, crooked, noisy or unwilling to close is usually describing one of those failures very precisely. If you tell us the symptom, we can tell you what it almost certainly is before we arrive.

  • A loud bang and a door that will not lift — a broken spring
  • A door that opens crooked and grinds — a snapped or slack cable
  • A door that reverses or refuses to close — sensors or a binding track
  • Grinding and squealing on every cycle — dry or worn rollers and hinges
  • A door that closes with a gap — tired springs or a bent track

Roller repair and replacement

Rollers are the cheapest part of a garage door and the cause of a surprising share of the noise. Nylon rollers flat-spot, steel rollers corrode and seize, and a seized roller drags along the track and loads the opener.

  • Replacing seized or flat-spotted rollers
  • Upgrading to quiet nylon or sealed-bearing rollers
  • Replacing worn roller stems and hinges at the same time

Track repair and realignment

Tracks take hits — a car bumper, a bicycle, a struck bin. Once a track is bent or pulled out of plumb the door binds, runs crooked and eventually leaves the track entirely. We straighten and realign where the track is sound, and replace the affected section where it is not.

  • Straightening and re-plumbing bent vertical track
  • Replacing damaged track sections with matched profile
  • Correcting the track-to-door clearance so rollers track cleanly

Garage door panel replacement

A dented or cracked section does not always mean a new door. Where the section is still available and the rest of the door is structurally sound, replacing the affected panel is the economical repair. We will tell you honestly when the profile is discontinued or the other sections are too far gone for a section swap to look right.

Safety sensor and reversal repair

The two small sensors at the bottom of the opening are the reason a door stops and reverses instead of closing on a child or a pet. When the door will not close, dirty or misaligned sensors, corroded wiring or direct sun on the receiver are the usual causes — not the opener.

  • Cleaning and realigning the sensor pair
  • Replacing corroded sensor wiring and brackets
  • Verifying the reversal test at the door and with a test object

Repair or replace — the honest answer

If the panels are sound and the opening is standard, repair is almost always the better spend, because the moving parts are designed to be renewed. Replacement makes more sense when the door is water-damaged or delaminating, when impact damage affects several sections, when a discontinued door cannot be matched, or when you want a different look and better insulation while the work is being done.

We give you both numbers and let you choose. We do not run a repair into the ground on a door that will not hold up.

Our process

Garage door service made simple

Four steps, no guesswork, and a clear explanation before any work starts.

  1. Contact us

Call or request service online. Tell us what the door is doing and where you are — that is enough to get started.

  2. Diagnose the problem

A technician evaluates the garage door, the opener and the affected components, including the counterbalance and safety system.

  3. Review the repair

We explain the recommended solution and the cost before work begins, and what happens if a part has to be ordered.

  4. Repair and test

The work is completed, then the door is balanced and cycled to verify safe, quiet operation from the wall control and the remote.

FAQ

Garage Door Repair — common questions

How do I know whether my garage door needs repair or replacement?
Look at the panels, not the noise. If the sections are straight, dry and undamaged, the failure is in the moving parts — springs, cables, rollers, hinges, track — and those are replaceable at a fraction of a new door. If the panels are delaminating, water-damaged or cracked, or several sections have taken impact damage, replacement is usually the better long-term spend.
Can you repair a garage door that has been hit by a car?
Yes, and it is one of the most common calls we get. The right answer depends on the damage: a bent track and displaced rollers are a repair, a single dented panel is often a section replacement, and a door that has been pushed out of square across several sections is usually a replacement. We assess it on site rather than guessing over the phone.
Do you carry parts on the van?
Common springs, cables, rollers, hinges, sensors and hardware are standard stock, so many repairs are completed on the first visit. Less common components and door panels are ordered to your door specification, and we tell you the expected timing before you commit.
